Northern College is seeking a Veterinary Technician – Kennel Duty in our Veterinary Sciences department. The successful candidate will possess experience in providing animal care professionally, effective inter-personal skills including problem solving, conflict management, decision making, effective communication skills (verbal and written), and computer skills (MS Office Suite).

Reporting to the Dean of Science, the successful incumbent will be working under the direction of the full-time Registered Veterinarian Technician of the School of Veterinary Sciences. The incumbent will be responsible for some weekend or occasionally alternate shifts overseeing the care of colony animals for the Veterinary Science programs and the students doing Kennel Duty. The incumbent, in collaboration with the School of Veterinary Sciences personnel, will be responsible for (what follows is a partial list of duties).
- Responsible for Kennel Duty coverage in the Veterinary Sciences Centre on weekend and/or evening shifts and/or weekday afternoon shifts when full-time and regular part-time support staff Veterinary Technicians are not available;
- Ensure that students are following proper protocols, rules and safe processes for the administration of
- Assist the veterinarian with the administration of vaccines and the medical care of animals and ensure that animal care records are maintained accurately; and
- Perform light cleaning duties.
- 2-year diploma from Veterinary Sciences Technician program; preferably a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (RVT); and
- Minimum (2) years of practical experience working as a member of a team practicing professional level
