Video Editor

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a full-time video editor to join our team to help create engaging and high-quality video content. You’ll be Maven’s primary in-house video editor and work across our marketing, video, and live production departments to produce edits for a wide range of projects.

Responsibilities

• Handle the editing, colour grading, and final assembly of video projects.
• Work with the creative director and project managers to ensure videos are creative, finished to a high standard, and meet client’s expectations.
• Assemble video storylines based on the project brief — adapting the editing style depending on project requirements.
• Balance creativity with client requirements and overall project scope.
• Offload and verify newly captured footage with the on-site video lead.
• Work with our graphic designer and sound designer to incorporate other creative elements into the final videos.
• Between video projects, work to create stringouts, prepare final project drives, archive past projects, complete regular backups, and keep project files organized.
• Collaborate with other Maven staff and contribute new ideas or ways to improve processes.
• Assist in accurately estimating time to complete video edits.

Your Skills

• A clear ability to discern and produce a high quality video edit in terms of the overall story, tempo, and colour.
• An ability to edit a wide range of content from high energy promo videos to social content to long format interview-based storytelling.
• Able to transform hours of interview and b-roll content into a smooth cohesive 2–5 min video, with the goal of telling a story in the most effective and compelling way.
• Clear eye for video colour and ability to grade raw footage into a finished form.
• Able to incorporate best practices with emerging trends.
• Excellent email etiquette, communication skills, and file organization.
• Intuition with knowing when to ask questions, change your approach, request further clarification.
• Ability to prioritize and manage competing deliverables and deadlines.
• Able to work in a team setting and independently.
• Adaptable, solution-focused, and strong problem-solving skills, especially under pressure. Able to work with uncertainty, ambiguity, and change.
• Positive and optimistic with the ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment

Qualifications

• Excellent portfolio of past work
• Strong video editing skills and use of NLE tools
• Experience with or willing to learn DaVinci Resolve for editing and color
• Familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite, including illustrator

Nice to Have:

• Previous agency or production company experience will be considered an asset
• Motion graphics capabilities and/or experience with After Effects
• Experience with Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro
• Sound design experience
• A keen eye for graphic design and text layout
• An understanding of colour theory and grading
• Technical knowledge of video codecs and formats
• Client or customer-facing experience
