ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
Pertinent Information: Full-time direct hire position. Full details to be provided at time of interview.
Wage: $85,000 - $100,000 + comprehensive benefits package.
Location: Windsor, ON.
Job Description
Reporting to the Controller the Assistant Controller is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and preparation for the financials for the business division and ensuring that accounting procedures and reporting conforms to generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards.
The Assistant Controller prepares reports that summarize and forecast business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings, and balance sheet categories based on past, present, and expected operations.
Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:
- Manage the month-end closing process, including understanding, coordination, and oversight of domestic and international business unit division.
- Assist with Credit & Collections
- Support short and long-range financial forecasting for budgeting and planning in coordination with FP&A.
- Provide analysis on the Business' financial results to optimize profitability and divisional performance. Proactively tackle P&L/balance sheet issues that arise and champion resolution collaboratively with the broader team.
- Ownership/Coordination of cost accounting activities for manufacturing including standards, variance analysis, inventory analysis and the annual physical inventory.
- Work as required with other areas to provide financial insight, guidance and financial education on different matters to support decision making and planning (e.g. make-buy analyses, cost reduction initiatives, capital projects, etc.)
- Prepare and/or Review monthly reconciliations and journal entries required for month-end closing
- Recommend new ideas for continuous process improvement in both the accounting and operations areas of the business.
- Analyze records of present and past operations, trends and costs, estimated and realized revenues, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred.
- Ability to multi-task and juggle many competing priorities simultaneously
- May perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in Accounting at the Senior level
- Three (3) years of experience managing teams
- Working towards a CPA designation or qualified CPA is an asset
- Proven experience in financial analysis, account reconciliation, and financial reporting
- Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Programs
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
