The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Client Relations co-op student/intern for the Summer 2023 work term (May to August).

The Client Relations co-op/intern conducts research on a broad range of investment issues (e.g., capital markets, strategy, performance, and investment products), prepares reports and presentations for clients, and assists with the delivery of client meeting material.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will work with the Client Relations team within our Corporate & Investor Relations department. The team manages all aspects of the business relationships with our institutional investor clients who have entrusted BCI to manage their collective capital and to generate long-term wealth on their behalf. The team works to build long-term relationships based on trust and to ensure that we exceed our clients’ investment performance and service expectations.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Support the efforts of Client Relations team to proactively ensure that BCI exceeds our clients’ service expectations
  • Conduct independent research and prepare reports/presentations on a wide range of investment topics for client meetings and for internal staff
  • Develop a strong understanding of client needs and the specific investment objectives for various institutional investors (e.g., pensions, insurance, endowment)
  • Develop client ready responses to their requests – understand individual client needs/concerns and be able to tailor a response
  • Assist with the coordination of client meetings, as well as organizing internal resources’ participation and attendance at client events
  • Assist with client education by producing written materials and educational presentations
  • Actively adheres to compliance and risk management policies and participates in BCI’s business continuity plan
THE IDEAL STUDENT
  • Has a keen interest in investments and a drive to continually learn about financial markets
  • Demonstrates an ability to gather and process large amounts of data and information, and present it in a concise manner
  • Likes to solve problems using creative and innovative solutions
  • Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
  • Has relevant prior co-op experience
  • Preference will be given to students who have shown initiative and a passion for the investment industry
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Interest in finance, economics and investment management
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and project management skills
  • Able to work with senior investment professionals in a dynamic, performance-driven environment
  • Working towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation would be an asset

THE DETAILS
  • Work term: Summer 2023 (May to August)
  • Department: Corporate & Investor Relations
  • Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC
  • Travel: If coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office. We are piloting a hybrid program whereby employees may work from home up to two days per week.
