Alpha House is a long-term intimate partner recovery program dedicated to helping women and children who are committed to leaving abusive relationships. We provide a full-time program of counselling and practical support within a protective living environment. Through counselling, workshops, family activities and support sessions, residents learn healthy coping strategies, rebuild their self-worth, and develop practical skills. Most importantly, women can re-enter communities with the skills and confidence necessary to sustain productive, happy, and healthy lives.
Job Summary
The Communications and Development Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is an integral part of the Alpha House team. This position crafts and delivers our message to the community through various communication methods and promotes the agency and its work as a cause.
The role is an opportunity for the successful candidate to bring creativity to the role, reimagining our communications and marketing, contributing to securing funds for the organization and promoting the cause of helping women and children live free from abuse and fear in our community. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, work well with internal and external stakeholders, and create compelling messages and content.
Qualifications/Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 2 years experience in a communications role or fundraising role, ideally demonstrated success in:
- Social media and website promotion.
- Media engagement and public awareness.
- Creating content for different platforms and audiences.
- Writing and otherwise supporting grant applications and other fund development activities.
- Membership in a professional association such as IABC, CPRS or AFP is an asset.
- Basic design skills and audiovisual productions skills are an asset.
- Acceptable Police Information Check.

- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills including an ability to convey technical information and data in accessible language and formats, including data storytelling. Able to manage difficult situations with well-developed conflict resolution skills.

- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
- Understanding of effective communications and ability to deliver compelling messages to different audiences in different mediums.
- Ability to think critically about audiences and to identify and tailor messaging and content for different ones.
- Ability to engage with people with lived experiences to translate their perspectives into meaningful user-centered content.
- Ability to produce visually engaging content in different mediums.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office.
Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
