Duties

The Facility Manager will work out of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research and Development Centres and is responsible for maintaining facilities (including complex laboratory facilities, offices, greenhouses, general maintenance and storage buildings, grounds, designated heritage buildings, assets in satellite locations).
The Facility Manager is responsible for the management and administration of legislative inspections; preventative maintenance programs, facility related work order system; health and safety and security issues and life cycle management practices of building systems and equipment. Facility Manager prepares, implements and/or oversees service contacts and provides input on maintenance budgets including identifying areas for cost or energy reductions and replacement or upgrades.
Position is responsible for overseeing and supervising the work of the facilities team.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one permanent English Essential position in Summerland, British Columbia.
In addition to the immediate need to staff the vacant position above, we anticipate vacancies in similar positions across Canada, that may be staffed from this process.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements and security requirements.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

EDUCATION:
  • A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives*.

Employer-approved alternatives* is defined as:

  • An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
  • Eligibility for a trade or occupational certification in the appropriate province in at least one of the following disciplines:
  • Plumbing;
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) Mechanic (Commercial);
  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright);
  • Power Engineer (Minimum class 5);
  • Industrial Electrician; OR
  • Instrumentation and Control Technician.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Recent** and significant*** experience in facility management.
  • Recent** and significant*** experience managing construction and/or renovation projects.
  • Recent** and significant*** experience operating and maintaining HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems.
  • Experience operating Building Management systems.

Recent** is defined as experience acquired within the last five (5) years.
Significant*** is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full-time duties for a minimum of three (3) years.

CERTIFICATION:
  • Certification in the appropriate province in Power Engineering, class 4 or higher.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience providing Facility Management services in any of the following environments:
  • scientific research environment;
  • government building;
  • medical facility;
  • commercial building;
  • industrial building.
