As a finance Intern, you will gain practical experience in finance operations and contribute to real-world projects and learning about financial processes within Medcan's finance team.
You will play an important role in Medcan's Finance and Accounting team by assisting with an Account mapping and legacy data reclassification project and a Physician Fixed Asset management project.
This is a summer internship opportunity that will run from May to August. Our paid internship program gives students practical work experience, learning and development workshops, social outings, and an opportunity to meet with our CEO and executive team members.
The Accountabilities
- Work on reclassifying historical financial data into new cost centers and spend categories
- Review legacy records, identify discrepancies, and update them according to current standards
- Work closely with Finance business partners to ensure accurate data migration
- Analyze account data, including transaction history, balances, and account structures
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in account records
- Identify opportunities to streamline data reclassification processes and ensure accuracy going forward
- Propose process enhancements to reduce manual work and improve efficiency
- Assist in creating and maintaining a comprehensive fixed asset database
- Ensure relevant information for each asset is completed including purchase price, acquisition date, physical location, serial number, estimated remaining useful life and any other essential information.
- Collaborate with Operations managers to estimate the useful life of each asset
- Research industry standards and best practices to determine appropriate useful life estimates
- Assist with other finance-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor
- Participate in team meetings (both virtual and onsite) and contribute fresh ideas
The Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field
- Analytical skills: ability to work with data, perform calculations and interpret information
- Natural attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
- Familiarity with databases and spreadsheets
- Team player with an eagerness to collaborate with cross-functional teams
This is a summer internship opportunity from May to August. This is a hybrid opportunity working 2 days/week in our Toronto office. You will work 5 days/week between Monday to Friday.
