What you'll be doing
Our Finance Student Program is designed to offer great work experience to compliment your classroom training and career goals. We are devoted to finding, selecting and training students who will make a positive impact on our company. The Finance Student Program activities allow you an opportunity to meet and network with company executives, employees, and fellow interns, as well as learn more about banking and the financial industry.
In this role, you will be assigned to the CIBC Taxation team. The CIBC Taxation team is part of the CIBC Finance team and is responsible for managing all aspects of CIBC's corporate income taxes, capital taxes, sales taxes and other business taxes
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Learning the basics of corporate taxation (income tax and sales tax) and the banking industry
  • Learning how to use tax compliance software
  • Assisting with the preparation of routine tax filings
  • Assisting with the recoveries of sales taxes
  • Learning how to use tax research tools and databases
  • Assisting with tax research and summarizing your findings

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote
Important Information
  • You must be currently enrolled in post-secondary education and returning to full time studies after term to be eligible, however, you do not need to be in a registered Co-Op program to be considered for this role

  • You are a university student pursuing a Bachelor's degree. Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics major preferred, but not required
  • Please note all employees must work within their current jurisdiction and must reside within Canada
  • Duration of term: Summer 2024 term (May-Aug)

How You'll Succeed
  • You possess data analytical skills - experience with Tableau or Alteryx is an asset.
  • Problem Solving - You are a keen problem solver and a self-starter, you are able to apply your academic knowledge to develop solutions to support the development and enhancement of processes.
  • Analytical - You are analytical, able to draw insights and conclusions from qualitative data, applying structure to complicated concepts.
  • Strong Communications - You have well developed interpersonal skills. You are able to take complex concepts and present them in easy to understand written and graphical formats, utilizing spreadsheets, presentation software and web tools. You present your insights, translating them into meaningful observations for varying audience types. You have strong verbal and presentation skills.
  • Adaptive - You are able to work independently with guidance from management and also in a dynamic team environment.
  • Cross Collaboration - You engage with team members and business partners to achieve common goals. You are able to work with business stakeholders to gather requirements and develop a deeper understanding of the bank's processes.
