JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a result's driven professional to join our Hydrotechnical Engineering & Field Support Team in the role of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Specialist at our Niagara On-The-Lake location in Ontario.
Reporting to the Plant Technical Support Manager, the GIS Specialist will be responsible for the development, coordinating, planning, implementing, updating and maintaining of OPG's GIS System.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Responsible for collecting, compiling, analyzing, organizing, updating, editing and maintaining geographic data and mapping data.
- Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for GIS related information at OPG.
- Operate and maintain OPG's Enterprise GIS / WebGIS platform.
- Provide leadership and technical support to GIS / WebGIS end users.
- Create and maintain graphical user interfaces, customizations and tools to extend WebGIS functionalities.
- Prepare custom and standard maps (inundation maps, public safety maps, emergency response maps etc.), reports and user guides, training and presentations, etc..
- Assist various project teams with map based data analysis, data query, mapping, graphics and design work that involves the use of GIS software.
- Perform/procure service for spatial data collection using GPS, LiDAR, and other technologies.
- Consult and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for map preparation and data acquisition including fieldwork for topographic and bathymetric data including but not limited to LiDAR surveys, satellite imagery, and aerial photographs.
- Perform other duties as required.
- 4- year Bachelor's degree in Geography, Earth Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or related field of study
- Formal training in GIS, Master's degree in GIS is preferred
- Advanced level expertise in use of GIS software including ESRI suite of products;
- Progressive experience with extensive application of GIS and geospatial tools;
- Demonstrated knowledge of current GIS principles, methodologies and practices for data management;
- Proficiency with SQL database programming and Python scripting language;
- Experienced using complex data models and GIS data structure;
- Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills;
- Ability to quickly assess, detect and correct errors and/or mitigate risks to the organization;
- Thorough attention to detail; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented;
- Sound professional judgment, initiative, with a results-oriented focus and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced changing environment and
- Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
