Human Resources Advisor
(Full-time, Exempt position)

The City of Parksville has an opening for a Human Resources Advisor. Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety, the Human Resources Advisor performs a range of generalist responsibilities at an intermediate level in the areas of full-cycle recruitment, job evaluation, disability management and employee and labour relations. This position will also participate in the development and ongoing administration of personnel policies and procedures and participate and assist with ongoing or new projects and initiatives as required.
This position will appeal to a confident, driven professional who understands the complexities of local government and works well in a fast-paced environment where leadership, innovation, teamwork, and sound planning are valued. The successful candidate will have strong working knowledge of CUPE collective agreements, City policies, BC Employment Standards Act, The Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, WorkSafeBC, BC Human Rights Code, and the BC Labour Code.
Responsibilities include providing professional Human Resources advice and support to leaders on recruitment, employee and labour relations, best practices, conflict resolution, workplace investigations, abilities management and progressive discipline; providing consultation and interpretation of our Collective Agreement, organizational policies and the application of employment standards, WorkSafe BC; providing support in disability management and return to work initiatives; assisting in employee and labour relations matters; developing job descriptions and managing full-cycle recruitment processes.
The ideal candidate will possess a
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration or a related discipline
- Three years’ experience in Municipal Human Resources environment – experience working in a union environment is required
- CPHR designation (or working towards) is considered an asset.
At the discretion of the City, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The City offers a competitive salary range $87,435.30 - $100,345.21, depending on relevant experience and credentials, and a comprehensive benefits package including an earned day off program upon completion of probation.
