Position:On CallPolice Based Victim Services Caseworker
Reporting Relationship: Reports Program and HR Director
Hours: Evenings and Weekends
Location: RCMP Office
Start Date: Immediate
Hourly Wage: Stand-by plus minimum 3 hours pay at $25/hr for callouts.
Key duties:
Provide ongoing court supports to clients referred to the program including but not limited to; court updates and explanations via telephone support, ongoing liaison with Crown Counsel including attending meetings, witness preparation/court orientation and court attendance when required.
Prepare concise, accurate and relevant case file information and court tracking.
Liaise with community service agencies, government agencies and police partners on matters relating to ongoing client court cases.
Education:
University Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience in the field of social sciences including sociology, psychology, criminology, or a related discipline. Introduction to Trauma-Informed practice preferred as well as any additional training and experience in crisis intervention.
Other requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance
Must possess a valid class 5 BC driver’s license in good standing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the justice system, court, and police procedures as it relates to victims of crime.
Knowledge and understanding of victim’s rights and the services available to victims of crime and other traumas.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Sound knowledge of available community resources.
Exceptional communication skills in dealing with RCMP, community service partners, Crown Counsel, and the public.
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Ability to handle emotional situations with an unbiased and non-judgemental approach.
