BC Parks, within the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, manages BC's protected area system, which provides protection and maintenance of important natural and cultural values, while providing outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities. BC's protected areas system is a public trust with exceptional opportunities for conservation, outdoor recreation, education, scientific study and social interactions. The protected areas system includes ecological reserves, provincial parks, conservancies, recreation areas and protected areas.
BC Parks manages over 14 million hectares, or over 14%, of Crown land within the protected areas system. BC Parks is the Crown land manager and statutory decision maker for all lands within the protected areas system. Many BC parks and protected areas are within proximity to urban and rural development and, therefore, concerns exist regarding wildfire resiliency planning and prevention. BC Parks has significant infrastructure and visitation within parks and protected areas. BC Parks wildfire resiliency planning and prevention must align with the preservation of park values and ensure consistency with BC Parks' strong conservation principles and associated policy and planning processes.
Reporting to the Provincial Land and Resource Section Head and working in a variety of settings, the Land and Resource Coordinator works in diverse teams, gathers and manages complex natural resource data, completes analysis and develops options, provides advice to statutory decision makers, facilitates and coordinates projects and engages directly with a wide variety of stakeholders to support land/resource management decisions and resolve complex stewardship issues. The Land and Resource Coordinator supports the 6 BC Parks Regions across the province and the Regional Operations Branch in wildfire prevention, planning, prescribed fire, and at times, wildfire recovery.
Job Requirements:
  • Degree in a natural resource related field and 2 years of related experience OR diploma in a natural resource related field and 3 years related experience.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders.
  • Preference may be given to those recognized as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
  • contract management;
  • coursework in procurement;
  • conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices;
  • coursework in project management;
  • leading engagement
  • fuel management;
  • ecosystem restoration; and/or,
  • prescribed fire.

Provisos:
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.
  • May be required to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile).
  • Willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
This position is located in either Penticton, Vernon or Kelowna subject to Ministry operational requirements; with the requirement for travel to participate in team, office, and field-based activities; other locations listed may be considered.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
