Position Summary
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting functions for College server resources
- Supports all operating systems and end-user server software, including Windows, Linux and ESX. Installs and maintains over 150 servers, including server bios/firmware upgrades, performance management and system security.
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of enterprise server-based software and applications.
- Analyzes system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance. Monitors, tests, and tunes operating system performance; preserves and provides system log files as needed.
- Supports centralized server monitoring, patch deployment, virus protection, and event log monitoring.
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware and software problems on servers. Escalates incidents to internal resources or third-party vendors as necessary.
- Contributes to documentation of O/S installation, server application software installation, and system support playbooks.
- Contributes to a software repository for all server environments.
- Creates required reports in response to business user needs.
- Provides escalated support for computing problems experienced by staff and students by responding to Service Desk calls logged via telephone, email or walk-in traffic.
- Investigates application specific procedures and prepares in-house software documentation.
- Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a three-year postsecondary diploma, degree, or equivalent in Computer, Electronic, Instrumentation technology or related field as determined by the Manager... (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
- Must be Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate or relevant Microsoft certification; OR VMware Certified Professional or relevant Hypervisor certification; OR Red Hat Certified System Administrator or relevant Linux certification.
- Must have more than two (2) years of practical experience with servers and workstations in a large server/workstation networked environment.
- Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows, ESX, Linux and servers is required.
- Must have working technical knowledge of current systems software protocols, and standards including Active Directory and Azure Active Directory
- Must have minimum of three (2) years of experience with backup solutions, user account management, server clusters, Blade environments, and centralized system management software used to monitor the health of servers and workstations.
Required Information
- Experience with Cloud based Identity Services and Microsoft 365 is an asset.
- Experience working within a postsecondary environment is an asset.
- Experience working within a High Availability systems architecture is an asset.
