About the role
We’re looking for a Unit Claims Manager, Subrogation, to join our growing team!
As a Unit Claims Manager, you will manage the day-to-day operations of one of our Subrogation teams in our Mississauga office to achieve essential business goals and meet customer service expectations. You will lead a team of high performing and skilled Subrogation adjusters, who are responsible for the investigation, negotiation, and settlement of property and/or automobile physical damage subrogation claims.
What you'll do here:
- Manages the operations of a Subrogation team to achieve key business goals.
- Provides leadership to the Unit. This includes: communicating corporate philosophy, vision, and values; motivating staff to participate in Unit objectives; continuously keeping them informed of changes or new directions; and soliciting feedback regarding operations. Identifies and coordinates assignments within the Unit. Provides guidance and feedback regarding performance.
- Facilitates continuous learning and development. Prepares and discusses yearly performance reviews with unit staff members. Participates in salary administration process for employees in the unit.
- Acts in a consultative and advisory capacity on claims matters and technical issues such as: liability determination, investigation, policyinterpretation, settlement negotiation, and reserve establishment for Subrogation claims. Resolves complex claims related issues and/or escalates problems according to company policies. Ensures that corporate policies, claims standards, and procedures are followed
- Maintains effectivecommunication channels with other departments. Liaises with other claims expertsor management on technical and administrative issues.
- Attends and participates in legislative/judicial hearings and alternate dispute resolution meetings. Authorizes settlements of claims in accordance with authority limits.
- Establishes and maintains productive business relationships with vendors, service providers, and legal firms. Attends to their concerns and issues.
- Monitors performance to ensure compliance with professional and corporate standards. Remains current with industry trends, technical developments, services, and products.
- Identify improvement needs and recommends changes to policies and/or processes to improve business results and maintain competitiveness.
- Audits staff files and provides feedback and/or training as determined by this exercise. Where required, establishes controls based on audit findings.
- Participates in the development and implementation of business plans for the Unit. Develops, recommends, and implements management strategies, organizational structure, and process/technology improvement initiatives.
What you bring to the table:
- 5 years P+C claims experience within Subrogation, Property or Casualty, and/or 2 years of leadership experience.
- Proven ability to lead, influence and to motivate and develop staff.
- Leadership skills including ability to motivate and coach team members.
- A sense of urgency in your work while multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and effortlessly shifting priorities.
- The independent ability to manage hybrid employees and drive business results.
- Strong relationship building and communication skills with all internal and external clientele.
- Analytical skills to deal with policy, legal and regulatory interpretation and implementation.
