Veterinary Assistant

Coastal City Animal Hospital is currently seeking a seasoned Veterinary Assistant to join our team. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting veterinarians to deliver high-quality care to animals. Your duties will encompass supporting veterinarians, managing animals, preparing surgical instruments, handling medications and laboratory samples, and maintaining clinic cleanliness.

To thrive in this position, strong laboratory skills, proficiency in safe animal handling, basic knowledge of veterinary terminology, experience assisting with x-rays and other veterinary procedures, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting veterinarians in providing care for animals
• Handling and restraining animals during examinations and procedures
• Preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment
• Administering medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
• Preparing laboratory samples for testing
• Assisting with x-rays and routine laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis
• Cleaning and maintaining examination rooms and equipment
• Providing assistance during surgeries and other procedures

Skills:

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques
• Proficient in handling and restraining animals safely and effectively
• Familiarity with common veterinary medications and treatments
• Exceptional organizational skills to ensure the maintenance of accurate records.
• Proficient in basic computer applications and veterinary management software.
• Ability to handle stressful situations with composure and maintain a positive attitude.

Previous experience in a veterinary/medical field is preferred. Candidates must be available to work weekends and evenings.

Wage will be determined based on experience.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $17.50-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
