Assistant Tree Farm Manager

INL Group of Companies has been in business for over 70 years. Our divisions include our Landscape Maintenance Division, Stone Yard Division, Landscape Commercial Construction, Garden Centre and Tree Farm Division.

Now hiring an Assistant Tree Farm Manager for our 2024 Season.

Our Tree Farm is located in Hamilton, Ontario, near African Lion Safari.

Responsibilities include assisting the Tree Farm Manager with the following:

· Maintaining the care of plants, flowers, and trees

· Assist with training and directing of the staff

· Protect nursery plants from diseases, weeds, insects and pests

· Must maintain clean work areas

· Able to work either outdoors or indoors – indoors might be at a desk completing paperwork or on the phone, outdoors involves hands-on, physical exertion

Organize and prepare trees and plants for shipping or pick-up

· Able to handle a fast-paced, high pressure environment especially during peak season

· Able to work with a diverse workforce

· Able to handle changes in temperature and humidity

· Ensure all operating procedures are followed

Requirements:

· Degree in horticulture or a related field

· Willingness to learn and apply that knowledge

· Valid G driver’s license with a clean abstract, must provide own transportation

· Fluent English speaking and writing is required

· Ability to speak Spanish is an asset

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Knowledge of plant propagation and cultivation

· Experienced in greenhouse growing techniques

· Familiarity with pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, watering and planting procedures

· Knowledge of various plants and plant names

· Must be professional, dependable, organized and have attention to detail

· Must have a great work ethic, be a team-player and have an entrepreneurial drive

· Must be able to handle repetitive tasks such as bending, sitting, crouching and standing for long periods

· Ability to work extended hours as required including weekends

· Able to use Microsoft office software such as Outlook, Word and Excel

• 10 hour shift

Experience:

• Tree Farming: 5 years (preferred)
