The Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions leads the province in efforts to improve the mental well-being and reduce substance use-related harms for all British Columbians. The ministry has overall responsibility for the development of a provincial mental health and substance use system that is coherent, accessible, and culturally safe and effective for individuals and families across the lifespan. The ministry is also responsible for escalating an immediate response to the province’s overdose emergency.
Reporting to the Senior Director, the Director of Service Planning and Implementation ensures major government investments across the substance use treatment and recovery continuum are implemented effectively. Leading multi-year development and Implementation processes, the Director ensures alignment with government objectives and priorities while building strategic partnerships with health authorities and service providers. The role is also responsible for developing funding criteria aligned with standards and regulations and ensuring quality service delivery with a focus on delivering key government commitments.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum three (3) years (preference for five [5] or more) of recent related experience must include:
- Leading strategic, complex projects, preferably in a government setting.
- Leading change initiatives of large scale and complexity.
- Providing policy, Service Planning and issues management advice and recommendations to senior staff and executive.
- Working with senior government officials and/or senior level professionals.
- Dealing with politically sensitive issues in a senior management capacity.
- Developing and presenting strategic investment and Implementation plans (both verbally and in writing) for senior leadership.
- Building and maintaining cooperative and productive relationships and effectively liaising with internal and external partners. Leading a multi-disciplinary team and supervising staff.
Preference may be given to candidates with the required combination of education and experience and:
- Have a master’s degree in business/public administration, public policy, health science administration, social sciences or a related field.
- Have experience working in the health, problematic substance use, or drug policy sectors.
- Have experience working with First Nations, Métis or Inuit organizations and communities.
- Have lived or living experience of, or experience working with populations with, complex health and social challenges. Who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
Willingness Statement:
- You may be required to travel regularly.
- You may be required to work evenings/weekends.
