Communications Coordinator
As our Communications Coordinator you will be the person who crafts the voice and image of the Town of Olds, building trust,
by ensuring reliable and clear communication. In this position you will regularly see the direct impact you have on residents
and visitors to our community. Every day you will manage and create the flow of accurate, on-time and easily understood
information through traditional communication channels such as the local newspaper, radio station and website and multiple
social media channels. To be successful in this position you must have a balanced background of creative and analytical
experience, to be able to manage multiple projects related to communication and take those ideas from concept to execution.
The person in this role must have a deep understanding and appreciation that they have a key role building towards the goals
and vison of the Town of Olds.
Located on the Highway 2 corridor, the Town of Olds has a population of just under 10,000 people and is home to Olds College
of Agriculture & Technology. Our community is fortunate to have robust leisure, cultural, and recreation amenities and a strong
commercial and industrial sector, all of which make us the regional hub for approximately 35,000 people. We are a community

- A fantastic eye for detail and design in a communications context.
- Previous experience in corporate or professional communications.
- Experience using the programs within the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Illustrator

The wage range for this position is $39.25 - $44.40. Annual salary based on a 37.5-hour work week. This position includes

DEPARTMENT: Community Services JOB REPORTS TO: Supervisor – Engagement & Communications
FUNCTION/PURPOSE: The Communications Coordinator plays an integral role in the sharing and dissemination of key information
from the Town of Olds, internally and externally. This role requires a confident, highly organized, process-driven team player, with the
ability to take your creative ideas from concept to execution, and the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of people. This person
will require a strategic mind that can effectively execute ideas. To be successful, this role requires a person skilled in written
communications in a lighthearted corporate tone, and an eye for what looks good and what doesn’t.
# KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (% time)
1.COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATION
- Support Supervisor – Engagement & Communications in building an organized, process-driven, and
- Responsible for the information flow from internal to external audiences and also within the
- Coordinate, write and/or edit, design, and deploy all weekly and monthly communications for multiple
- Coordinate and support interdepartmental teams using third party contractors when necessary.
- Actively seek out information to identify key information, coming events, initiatives, projects, and
- Coordinate and support recurring initiatives/projects such as recreation guides, annual reports,
- Promote and distribute information about Town programs, services, initiatives, and events.
- Ensure all information going out is accurate, accessible, and useful for staff and community.

- Ensure positive image of the Town of Olds and Council on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn social
media accounts creating, posting, monitoring, and interacting/responding on all primary Town-based
social media.
- Ensure a lighthearted, progressive, and polished public image of the Town of Olds and Council by
secondary Town of Olds social media accounts.
- Create, improve, and implement social media policies, procedures, and guidelines for organization.
- Create content (design, write, take photos) and select visuals with basic design skills using best
practice to optimize reach and accessibility.

Education:
- Post-Secondary education in Marketing, Communications, English, Public Relations, Web Design or similar.
- Visual Design Certification or other relevant digital communications programs certification an asset
- Social Media or Marketing Certification an asset
- Emergency or Crisis Communications training as an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position/industry, communications, web content management, social media
- Or a combination of education plus work experience in the field of communications, marketing, and design.
Competencies:
1. Highly detailed oriented and skilled with database management.
2. Strong time-management and organizational skills.
3. Strong people skills and ability to deal effectively with diverse groups of people.
4. Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams and Adobe Creative Suite and other administrative software.
5. Basic design principles and corporate writing experience required.
6. Email subscription list management through programs such as CyberImpact.
7. Strong English language skills, both written and verbal.
8. Ability to take initiative and work independently and within a team with minimal supervision.
9. Be open to learning, growing, improving and highly motivated to make Olds a more vibrant community.
