Job description

Position Summary:

We are seeking an Operator to depart from our Leduc hub and contribute to diverse projects at different locations. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Operator is responsible for safe operations and maintenance of equipment and efficient fluid management on customer locations. The Operator is responsible for overseeing the mechanical separation process of off spec or waste fluids and returning recovered material to the customer through the closed loop systems and completing daily paperwork. This position may also be responsible for assisting in setting up, tearing down, monitoring and maintaining centrifuges and related equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • The Onsite Operator is responsible for waste management on active locations. This also includes the understanding and operation of process equipment and its functions in dewatering equipment, oil recovery and solids management; and the day-to-day operation of the facility.
  • Responsible for performing a combination of routine and complex equipment operation, preventative maintenance and manual labour, which may include some instruction to others;
  • Participate in waste processing, waste and mud tank operation, shaker & centrifuge operations and solids treating
  • Ensures that all equipment and systems are being operated to Secure standards; and that all corporate compliance programs are adhered to
  • Operates, monitors and controls process levels, temperatures, pressures and flows for applicable processes and systems in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Monitors function of process equipment such as – Centrifuges, heat exchangers, pumps, tanks, flow meters.
  • Ensures that required documentation is legible, accurate and completed on a timely basis daily;
  • Identifies and recommends improvements to processes and systems;
  • Performs troubleshooting and repair activities as needed;
  • Regularly attends and actively participates in safety meetings, identifies any safety concerns to supervisor, reports all incidents and assists in investigations;
  • Performs mechanical and or equipment maintenance as required and/or assigned;
  • Maintains safe and clean equipment and general work area;
  • Acquires and maintains all certifications as required (H2S Awareness, Mobile Equipment, Etc.);
  • Ability to perform physical tasks safely and duties include but not limited to shoveling, moving equipment, tank cleaning and housekeeping requirements;
  • Occasionally assist with mentoring new employees;
  • Participates in the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS)
  • Consistently upholds Secure Values and Life Saving Rules when representing the company;
  • General maintenance, ensure that the plant is kept clean and safe

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

The individual in this role will have:

  • A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years operational experience in waste processing and oil treating or water injection
  • Experience with solids control equipment including centrifuges and centrifuge related equipment;
  • Current and valid safety tickets, including H2S Alive, First Aid Level One C, Confined Space Entry, WHIMS and TDG
  • Must be able to document their work, perform and manage cross shift communication and ensure strategic communication with multiple stakeholders,
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and other computer systems;
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate excellent decision-making skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize activities working alone often required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Midstream terminal operations experience is considered a strong asset
  • Specialty training in boilers, treaters, pumps (all), repairs, shaker/centrifuge and loader is considered an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is considered an asset.
  • 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate

Role Requirements:

  • A valid driver's license; the successful candidate will be responsible for getting themselves to and from designated travel hub.
  • Ability to work 12hr shifts (days and nights) as well as weekends and holidays (14 days on/14 days off) normally away from home the entire shift;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours unsupervised and overtime as required;
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions including extreme heat or cold depending on location;
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds and walk up and down stairs/ladders frequently, stand for extended periods, and work in tight spaces.
  • This position falls within the Respiratory Protection Program and therefore requires the employee to be clean shaven daily for respirator use per CFR1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A).

Please note: This position is 14 days on/ 14 days off. This role will be on Long Term Projects and camp or housing will be provided at the project location.
