POSITION:Family Resource Worker (Social Services)
LOCATION: Alliston with travel throughout Simcoe County-Hybrid Work Model
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The goal of the Family Resource Worker is to work collaboratively with families who have a school-aged child (to 18 years) with a developmental disability, to identify their strengths and needs by creating an Individual Family Service Plan based on their goals.
STATEMENT OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- To engage with the family to identify needs and goals that will enhance their child’s well-being in the community, school, and home.
- To initiate and build relationships to ensure a client centered approach to service implementation.
- To assist families in accessing needed services and informal support, through the provision of information, resources, and assistance.
- To ensure flexibility in service provision, accommodating changing needs, interests, and circumstances of the family.
- To promote the Family Resource Service in the community, through presentations, resource sharing, and inter-agency functions.
- To facilitate community-based information sessions, and parent support groups.
- To regularly attend and participate in supervision, team meetings, and performance appraisals as required.
- To participate in professional development in consultation with manager, and to demonstrate initiative in learning and developing new techniques of service delivery.
- To participate on community and agency committees as assigned.
- To adhere to all agency standards, policies, and procedures including Health and Safety Policy Rules and Regulations.
- An organized and accurate electronic clinical record will be maintained that demonstrates the provision of services, establishes accountability, and enables the evaluation of service quality for all persons served.
- Demonstrates respect for and builds on the culture of the individual/family, such as values, preferences, beliefs, heritage, and identity as described by the person/family.
- Ability to respond to complex situations and assist families in time of stress.
- To carry out other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Level:
Post-secondary degree at a university level in one of the social or behavioural disciplines with directly related experience (1 to 2 years) or a community college diploma in one of the social or behavioural disciplines and directly related experience (2 to 3 years) working with individuals with developmental challenges in a community services environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of community resources for youth and adults with special needs, the education system and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of typical and atypical child development.
- Knowledge of family systems theory and an understanding of the family development and functioning.
- Ability to develop trusting, collaborative relationships with clients, families, service providers, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills and judgment and ability to manage communication.
- Sensitivity, understanding and ability to work with a variety of value systems, beliefs and cultures.
- Ability to support self-advocacy and empowerment for families.
- Working knowledge of word and data entry.
- A working understanding of the French Language is beneficial.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Aware of Health & Safety Rules & Regulations.
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
This position is within the bargaining unit.
Hourly Rate Range: $26.92- $30.42 per hour, plus a generous Employee Benefit Package, including a Pension & Health and Dental Plan
