Farm Assistant

Who We Are:

Located in Niagara Wine Country, Gastrohomestead is a one-of-a-kind farm destination where we grow a multitude of vegetables for our two restaurant Ruffino’s Pasta Bar & Grill. We implement organic practices and regenerative agriculture techniques as much as possible to showcase what we can grow best in Niagara. Our primary goal is to nourish the guests at our restaurants as well as provide fresh produce on our little market stand. We pride ourselves on quality and consideration for the environment.

The Job:

The Apprentice Farmer Worker works with the Farm Manager to cultivate vegetables for our restaurant, farm dinners and farm stand. This includes seeding, weeding, and harvesting produce. This job runs from May to October. We provide an environment that fosters growth and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist in crop maintenance and care

· Weeding, pruning, harvesting

· Assist with the sale of vegetables at the farm stand

· Assist with farm maintenance including care of chickens and garden esthetics

Skills & Requirements:

· Ability to work independently and in a team setting

· Comfortable working in all weather conditions

· Able to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs

· Kneeling, crouching, stooping, and bending frequently

· Knowledge of horticulture techniques

Contract length: 6 months

Salary: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
