The Nepean Sailing Club, a family orientated, volunteer-based Sailing Club situated in
the west end of Ottawa, is currently recruiting a Food and Beverage Manager to join its
Food and Beverage team. The ideal candidate possesses a positive upbeat personality
and is capable of being both outgoing and sincere. The individual will be dedicated,
insightful and enthusiastic in providing top-level membership / client services.
Position Summary
The Food and Beverage Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nepean
Sailing Club’s food, beverage, and event services. This includes but is not limited to
overseeing personnel, purchasing of Food and Beverage supplies, performing
inventories, providing timely Profit & Loss reports and ensuring that service facilities are
kept neat and presentable. The incumbent will maintain a harmonious atmosphere that
fosters positive club culture, paired with quality hospitality services for all users of the
club.
In addition, the position requires an ownership mentality in promoting Nepean Sailing
Club’s food, beverage and event services to members and outside guests of the club.
The Food and Beverage Manager will monitor daily sales and costs related to labour
and goods sold in a fiscally responsible manner. The Food and Beverage Manager is
responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations, develops seasonal menus and
maintains a close working relationship with the Head Cook and their team in order to
maximize service efficiency.
Responsibilities
Day to Day
Oversee the day-to-day food, beverage and event rental operations
Ensures a positive and efficient service environment for members and guests.
Troubleshoots service-related issues.
Provide support to staff during rushes (e.g.) assist staff with service when required.
Works in tandem with the Senior Management team to ensure service runs efficiently.
Updating Point of Sales system with current menu items and specials
Ensuring compliance with industry health and safety standards
Staff Related Functions
Weekly scheduling bar, kitchen and service staff
- Attend regular meetings and communicate with all levels of Club staff.
- Hold meetings for kitchen and service team members. (Giving feedback, training
and ongoing best practice implementation)
Recruitment and training of bar and service staff
Equip and assist as needed, head cook to train kitchen staff.
Ensure best and safe practices are followed and deal with incidents appropriately.
Monitoring staff bar and service performance and providing written evaluations.
Troubleshooting staffing issues related to bar and service staff.
Distribute tips equitably.
Create, manage and update menus both in-house and on-line.
Ensure staff compliance with club policies and procedures.
Maintain positive working relationships with suppliers.
Events
Assist with the planning process related to club social events.
Maintain the club’s internal event calendar (NorthStar).
Assist with the planning & development of promotional & marketing strategies for
external event rentals.
Oversee event rental inquiries , with timely email and phone responses to clients
Promote the club as a rental facility.
Ensure that all events are staffed accordingly.
Be onsite during events to ensure a managerial presence and quality assurance.
Coordinate with organizers and kitchen staff during events to ensure efficient delivery of
services.
Perform event follow-ups with hosts / organizers on invoicing and payments.
Track and report on event Profit & Loss performance.
Inventory and Purchasing
Perform and or oversee all Food and Beverage inventories.
Be responsible for purchasing bar products and supplies.
Perform weekly, monthly and yearly Profit & Loss reporting.
Ensure all alcoholic products comply with commercial license regulations established by
the Government of Ontario
Works with Club General Manager to establish pricing.
Qualifications:
Experience: Two – three years as a Hospitality Manager, college diploma or university
degree in hospitality management, or a combination of experience and education.
Private/public club experience is a plus.
Clear, quality-based communicator
Thorough knowledge of Food and Beverage products, industry trends and standards.
Event management experience.
Smart Serve certified.
Strong knowledge of P.O.S. systems, Microsoft office software.
Capable of working significant hours standing.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Schedule:
Full time year-round, permanent employment is possible
Days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Busy summer season, with decline in business and hours during the winter months.
