Reporting to the Health, Safety and Wellness Manager, the Health, Safety & Wellness Specialist is responsible for providing support in all areas of Health and Safety and for driving continuous improvement in all departments. In addition to Health and Safety, this position is responsible for leading Conestoga's security and wellness programs. This position also acts as a Specialist to ensure timely completion of continuous improvement projects.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS / ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enhance and promote a strong team and Health and Safety culture
- Enforce all established Health and Safety regulation and safe work practices in accordance with company policy
- Maintain a visual presence in the plant assisting and identify workplace hazards
- Ensure strong communication and alignment with managers and team members on workload and status of projects and initiatives

- First/main contact for our site security program, including keys, perimeter access, protester program, visitor and contractor access and other duties that may arise
- Main contact for all site security issues, including guardhouse, GA Locks, maintenance, facilities, engineering and any other additional stakeholders
- Schedule repairs, installations and new initiatives
- Maintain program policies, records and reporting and provide recommendations for improvements
- Working alongside the EE Engagement & Development Manager, develop and implement Wellness initiatives
- Review our occupational and non-occupational statistics to develop initiatives to reduce the risk of the same health, safety and illness incidents
- Maintain all current Health and Safety statistics including WSIB, non-occupational statistics (First Aid, Near Miss), Short-Term Disability injury statistics, Pre-Offer of Employment Testing Statistics
- Develop accurate reporting methods and formats to maintain consistent statistics
- Develop, implement and verify action plans specific to the injury data and department
- Develop action plans based on analysis of data for WSIB, STD and POET as well as internal non-reportable incidents
- Train leadership on tools developed and related to statistics
- Utilize and maintain the accuracy of discomfort reports to ensure credibility and efficiency in the statistical database
- Function as HSW subject matter expert on department-initiated projects
- Function as HS&W Lead on projects in which H&S is involved
- Lead projects meant to progress the H&S team objectives as delegated by the H&S Manager
- Utilize Change Management tools and available Project Management tools in collaborating with all stakeholders to detail specific project deliverables
- Analyze project performance/data and produce progress reports against requirements
- Communicate plans, actions, risks, and issues with key stakeholders
- Lead third party inspections and audits. Determine, implement and verify the corrective actions have been completed and are sustainable
- Assist in the Company's Early and Safe Return to Work program
- Participate in Kepler meetings and workshops
- Cover vacation schedules
- Lead operation projects as assigned
- Assist fellow Health, Safety & Wellness Coordinator as required
- Attend company required training
- Remain current with technical knowledge in areas of responsibility
- Attend regular 1:1 coaching/update sessions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree/diploma in a related field and a Post-Secondary Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- 3-5 years working full time as a Health and Safety Specialist in the food or manufacturing industry
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Human Rights and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
- Experience with WSIB claims management, incident investigation, workplace inspection, ergonomics and risk assessments
- Knowledge of workplace wellness and security programs and initiatives
- Complete proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other common applications
- Must be decisive, a team player and be able to work well under pressure
- Ability to deal with tight deadlines effectively and efficiently, and day-to-day Health and Safety issues and concerns as they arise
- Strong organizational skills and project management skills
- Strong persuasive written and verbal communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Cold environment
- Noise levels may exceed 85 DbA (hearing protection is provided)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- May be required to lift 50 pounds on an occasional basis while performing ergonomic assessments
