Manager, Employee Relations
(1 Position, Full-Time)
SALARY RANGE
$106,895 - $136,723
Position Summary
Provide employee/labour relations expertise, direction, and guidance to the organization, as well as manage the operations of the Employee Relations Department and in the absence of the Superintendent of Human Resources and Employee Relations, the Health, and Safety Department. Builds capacity amongst management staff to address labour relations matters and fosters positive working relationships with key stakeholders, including union partners, senior leadership, and external parties (Children’s Aid Society, Police Services, Ontario College of Teachers). Participates proactively with other members of the Board’s Senior Management team in developing and executing strategic plans to optimize the use of the Board’s Human Resources in support of the educational and business objectives of the Board. The Manager of Employee Relations participates in policy and decision-making at the Senior Management level regarding resource allocation, financial allocation, staffing, organizational development, and design.
Qualifications/Experience
- University degree in Industrial or Labour Relations or Human Resources, or a related field. A minimum of ten (10) years’ progressive experience in the field of Labour Relations/Human Resources. Supervisory experience. CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional). OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Qualifications/Additional Experience:
- Significant previous experience should be demonstrated in the following areas: Collective Bargaining, Contract Administration, Pay Equity Legislation, and Job Evaluation processes. Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation. Excellent reading, writing, and oral skills, to interpret and address complex and sensitive information such as contracts, financial information, and legal documents. Proficient in microcomputer use, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent strategic planning, issues management, and analytical problem-solving and negotiation skills. Strong policy development and leadership experience. Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment, tact, and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external contacts. Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and successfully complete projects with conflicting deadlines and urgency. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. Experience working with a large public sector multi-union employer. Experience in the area of education is an asset. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
