POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Manager, Finance & IT, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for supporting the effective and accurate processing of payroll and will assist the finance team with general administration across its accounting and accounts payable functions. As this is a start-up position, the successful candidate must also have hands on experience in assisting with the overall operations of our financial processes focusing mainly on payroll processing tasks and payroll system administration. This position will also be responsible for payroll accounting communications channels between employees for the Magino Operation.
MAGINO MINE:
Argonaut Gold is a Canadian-based gold producer with a portfolio of operations in North America. Focused on becoming a low-cost, mid-tier gold producer, the Company’s newest gold mine, Magino is expected to become Argonaut’s largest and lowest cost mine. Commercial production at Magino has been achieved, which is the first step in transforming the Company as it enters a pivotal growth stage. The Company also has three additional operating mines including the Florida Canyon mine in Nevada, USA, where it is pursuing potential for redevelopment and additional growth, La Colorada mine in Sonora, Mexico and San Agustin mine in Durango, Mexico.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and process hourly and salaried bi-weekly payrolls in collaboration with HR.
- Review timesheet entries, provide support to supervisors with their reviews.
- Calculate new hire pay, termination pay, and any required adjustment to normal pay.
- Support the distribution centres with accurate employee timesheet reporting, including vacation, overtime, sick pay, etc.
- Calculate, reconcile and process source deductions, EHT, WSIB, payments and other payroll-related remittances on a timely basis.
- Annually prepare the T-slip filings, including taxable benefits calculation.
- As needed, work to set up new employees in the payroll system on a timely basis.
- Complete ROE’s and benefit plan invoice administration.
- Assist the Finance team raising requisitions, entering invoices and general administrative tasks.
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting or Business Administration preferred. High School diploma required.
- Minimum 2+ years of related experience, ideally full cycle payroll experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll systems for 500 employees.
- Proficiency with information systems including Microsoft Excel experience.
- Previous accounting experience preferred.
- General familiarity with account reconciliation, accounting and bookkeeping.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven analytical and quantitative skills.
- Self-motivated individual who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve challenges.
- Pays attention to detail, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet critical business deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- The role is located at the Magino Mine, in Dubreuilville, Ontario, Canada.
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on, 3 days off (10-hour days) OR 7 days on and 7 off (12-hour days).
