Job Posting: Summer Programmer (2 openings)
Westlock Library is looking for two fun-loving and energetic Summer Programmers to run our Summer Reading Club and provide exciting learning opportunities for children of all ages.
Employment Terms
The terms of this position are conditional upon 2024 government grant funding. Candidates must be between 18-30 years old, enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program, and returning to studies in the fall of 2024.
This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours/ week for 7 weeks) with a start date of July 12024, and an end date of August 16 2024. It includes a varied schedule, which may include some evenings and weekends. Wages are $18.00/ hour.
Job Responsibilities
- A commitment to upholding the Canadian Federation of Library Associations’ position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion
- Assisting our team of library assistants with planning and preparing activities for children and teens as part of our Summer Reading Club
- Promoting and running the Summer Reading Club at the Westlock Library and at various outreach events
- Creating a final report and gathering feedback to demonstrate the program’s success and areas for improvement
- Providing excellent customer service
- Supporting other staff members with daily operational tasks as needed
Job Qualifications
- A passion for literacy and enabling youth to grow through reading, writing and technology
- Comfortable presenting programs and leading activities
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience working with children and customers of various ages
- Strong communication and computer skills
- Experience or training in childcare, child development, education, or recreation will be considered an asset
- Clear Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
