The year 2023 will be a year of transformation and innovation for our teams at VIA Rail. Our brand-new trains are entering service on the Quebec City – Windsor corridor: the largest modernization project in our organization's history! Our teams have played a fundamental role in this change and are helping us be the smarter way to move people, from coast to coast to coast.

Do you enjoy being close to the action? Do you want to work with multiple teams on a new project? Are you an excellent communicator? We are looking for a Training Coordinator who is interested in contributing to the commissioning and operation of our new fleet of trains, working with a large multidisciplinary team.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Learning and Development, the Coordinator will be responsible for all training activities in the department (organization, delivery, follow-up, evaluation, and document production). The successful candidate will be expected to take on this role with confidence to take ownership of the training schedule and program. The Coordinator will collaborate and work closely with the new fleet program project team to identify training gaps and ensure that all new and existing employees are properly trained.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan, schedule and follow up with participants during the training registration process;
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders regarding training needs and delivery;
  • Complete the necessary administrative requirements in the Learning Management System: create a scheduled session, register into a session, and capture the participants who attended the training session;
  • Track and report on training outcomes;
  • Maintain employee training records up-to-date in our LMS (VIP);
  • Run mandatory training gap analysis reports and other training needs;
  • Manage logistics for training activities including venues and equipment;
  • Ensure proper processing and tracking of vendor invoices;
  • Coordinate off-site training activities.
Requirements :
  • College diploma in a related field (HR, Training). However, other combination of skills, education and experience that are relevant may be considered;
  • At least 3 years of established and relevant experience in a similar role in a training or HR environment.

Competencies :
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages;
  • Strong abilities in coordinating activities and establishing priorities in a fast-paced environment, while ensuring deadlines are met;
  • Possess very good interpersonal and communication skills in order to collaborate with the members of the various teams and develop suitable trust relationships;
  • Flexible, able to adapt to change and evolving priorities, and remain calm under pressure;
  • Able to participate in the successful implementation of changes;
  • Self-sufficient and able to do the work on their own initiative, with limited guidance or supervision;
  • Demonstrate diplomacy and a certain judgment;
  • Good command of the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook);
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an asset.

Why choose VIA Rail?
  • Competitive salary and a generous compensation and benefits package;
  • Flexible options for hybrid remote work;
  • A close knit team of happy co workers;
  • Numerous opportunities for career advancement;
  • An environment that supports employee health and well being;
  • A wide range of health and wellness benefits for employees and their families, including unlimited telemedicine service;
  • To contribute to a sustainable transportation service connecting Canadian communities;
