Volunteer Coordinator Position
(Part-Time Position) Mission Thrift Store Chatham
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Volunteer Coordinator has a vital and meaningful role with a local Mission Thrift Store. They must have solid relational qualities, using cultural competence to recruit and lead a wide range of diverse volunteers to operate a Mission Thrift Store effectively. The Volunteer Coordinator must seek and recruit qualified volunteers using a welcoming and inclusive framework.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Activities:
Recruit a sustainable volunteer base for the local Mission Thrift Store (approximately 100 or more active Volunteers)
Establish and maintain a volunteer succession program to continually strengthen the volunteer base, with the assistance of BFM Foundation staff
Provide orientation and training specific to the volunteer’s job duties for all new and existing volunteers. Ensure all provincial and federal safety requirements have been provided and delivered to create a positive, respectful, cooperative, rewarding work experience for all volunteers
Review organizational policies and procedures and the rights and responsibilities with each volunteer to ensure knowledge of the organization and our ministry purpose
Assist in providing an efficient and safe working environment for the volunteers. Be a promoter of the Mission Thrift Store and the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada
Ensure volunteer applications, screening & interview documents, police records check (PRC), and agreements are completed and stored using proper handling of personal information using compliance requirements with the Personal Information Protection & Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
Communicate regularly with volunteers through regular evaluation, check-in phone calls, e-mails, and personal recognition for their commitment
Assist the Store Manager with an effective plan of scheduling volunteers to ensure each workday is covered, effectively utilizing all volunteers
