About the Job: This position is responsible for executing the beer and cider programs at our 2 locations. This includes input into menus, ordering product, line cleaning and draught system maintenance and FOH service readiness.
The ideal candidate will be able to work at multiple locations, and walk 7 minutes (each way) back and forth between our 2 downtown locations:
- 391 King St. West - Bar Hop
- 137 Peter St. - Bar Hop Brewco
Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties and responsibilities as outlined below are for both Bar Hop locations.
- Manage deliveries as they come in, including weighing for inventory, organizing and stocking new product
- Stock and re-stock beer fridges in a neat, presentable and timely fashion
- Implement draught changes throughout the week as required
- Maintain website menus for draught items, including adding new and removing old
- Make buttons for new draught items in POS
- Maintain a schedule for line cleaning for all draught lines and complete line cleaning activities in a timely manner to keep beer fresh
- Complete repair and maintenance on draught equipment and its components
- Liaise with draught system repair companies as required.
- Participate in inventory activities on a weekly/bi-weekly basis
- Manage and organize keg inventory: ensure empties are picked up regularly and product is not sitting around for too long
- General and ongoing cleaning and maintenance of the beer and tap areas and keg fridges
- Troubleshoot beer pouring and draught system issues and implement fixes to help minimize waste
- Communicate pouring specifications and draught system issues to FOH team to help minimize waste
- Work closely with Bar Hop accounting and liaise with breweries as needed
- Order bar supplies as needed, including glassware, chemicals, beer gas, etc.
- Point of contact for equipment as related to glass washers, pop guns and gas
Input into the Following Activities lead by Bar Hop Ownership/Management:
- Input into the selection of Bar Hop’s rotating beer and cider menus (draught & cans/bottles) that are appealing to craft beer lovers and are balanced across styles and breweries
- Orders with brewery partners every week based on recent sales, projections, current inventory and style gaps
- Maintain knowledge of the evolving Ontario brewery landscape and identify new breweries to order from to keep our beer menus fresh and interesting
- Improve beer knowledge and handling across the FOH team through coaching, training sessions, job aid materials, etc.
- Work closely with brewery partners on various beer events
- Develop and share tasting notes with FOH team
- Identify ways to improve the beer experience at Bar Hop
- Identify ways to help minimize waste or maximize sales
Skills & Qualifications:
- A passion for great beer and strong knowledge of local craft beer, breweries and beer styles
- Previous experience working as a beer system specialist or in a brewery
- Previous experience working with draught systems, equipment and technical components
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a team
- Self-motivated and thrives in a face-paced work environment
- Excellent communicator, personable, friendly, enthusiastic and has a positive attitude
- A desire to help others improve by coaching and sharing knowledge and tasting notes to the FOH service team
- Strong computer skills
- Able to work on site with a flexible schedule
- Able and willing to work variable hours and at times, be available outside of regular weekday hours, including days, evenings and weekends as per fluctuating business demands
- Ability to handle heavy physical work, including climbing stairs, moving full kegs, etc.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 40Kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 67Kg with the assistance of a team member
- Ability to work safely with potentially corrosive chemicals
- A developed taste and palate for beer flavours and aromas is an asset
