HR Generalist
Nature Fresh Farms is a Leamington-based greenhouse company with facilities in Leamington, ON and Delta, OH as well as Laredo, TX. We are currently seeking candidates to fill a full-time permanent position as HR Generalist for our Farms operations in our Leamington, ON location.

Job Details:*
As a successful candidate, a newly appointed HR Generalist will assume an important role within our organization, with responsibilities spanning various HR functions that support our company’s objectives. These responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to, overseeing recruitment processes, addressing employee relation matters, facilitating employee training and development initiatives, assisting with conflict resolution, and providing comprehensive HR support to all Nature Fresh departments and employees.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:*

  • Conduct recruitment for including advertising, interviewing, and drafting new hire agreements.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring a smooth first-day experience.
  • Handle all administrative tasks related to onboarding, including data entry, auditing for accuracy, and compliance.
  • Act as a liaison for employees and management, addressing various employee-relations matters, leave of absences, grievance issues, and coaching discussions.
  • Assist with performance reviews, probationary assessments, and annual evaluations.
  • Provide guidance and support during the progressive discipline process, including drafting incident reports, coaching letters, and warnings.
  • Conduct and document investigations related to employee inquiries and complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations, employment laws (ESA), and Health & Safety laws (OHSA).
  • Prepare employee leave and separation notices, as well as termination and severance letters.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including hard and electronic copies.
  • Review, update, and enforce HR procedures, policies, and SOPs.
  • Create, review and update job descriptions.
  • Coordinate and deliver employee training related to Human Resources.
  • Update job requirements and job descriptions for all positions as needed to maintain the work structure.
  • Maintain HRIS and spreadsheets, ensuring accurate data entry.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the produce industry and the importance of confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Assist with company events i.e., Annual Christmas Party, Employee Appreciation Event etc.
  • Actively initiate, participate in, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Must comply with all Health and Safety, Food Safety, Bio Security, and Nature Fresh Policies and Procedures.

Job Requirements:*

  • 3+ years progressive experience in a Human Resources Generalist role is an asset.
  • A post-secondary education relating to Human Resources and/or Business Administration/Business Management would be an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain relationships of trust with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, must be a good team player.
  • Strong problem-solving skills required to analyze/solve problems and any unforeseen complications that could arise.
  • Proven track record with seeing jobs/projects through to completion while meeting deadlines.
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task while having strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Strong conflict management abilities and understanding of employee relationships.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends/after hours for company events.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle are required.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the position.

Working Conditions:*

  • Works in an office setting with travel between locations and may be required to work occasionally in the greenhouse with exposure to extreme temperatures and pests.
  • Works with a diverse group of employees, management, and departments.
  • The HR Generalist works Monday – Friday, occasional holidays and weekends as needed.

  • Office setting- walking, sitting, and standing throughout the day.
