The Intermediate Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the finance department's daily operations. This role is responsible for executing the timely and accurate day-to-day accounting functions including financial reporting, transaction processing, reconciliations, and various other accounting tasks so that the company has accurate information for making critical decisions.
This full-time position works with the rest of the accounting team to gain valuable hands-on experience maintaining detailed financial records for Burrard's portfolio.
Responsibilities
1. Transaction Processing
- Process invoices to support ongoing priorities
- Post journal entries to ensure accurately recorded financial transactions
- Obtain and compile approvals and backup for cheque payments to ensure proper internal controls
- Track and record accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding receivables monthly
- Manage cash accounts and prepare ACH and wire payments
- Prepare and maintain Canadian and US government regulatory sales and excise tax filing
- Complete bank reconciliations
- Interface with Burrard's tax consultants to ensure income tax filing deadlines are met
- Manage the month and quarter end processes to provide accurate consolidated financial statements in a timely manner
- Prepare budgets and forecasts to educate capital requirements and cash flows
- Assist in preparing reports for the Burrard ownership team and joint venture partners
- Bachelor's degree, with a focus on accounting courses
- 2 years of experience in an accounting-related position
- Experience with SAP Business One, SAP Concur and Solver BI360 are assets
- Very strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and effective time management skills to meet deadlines
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- An avid desire to learn new skills
- Strong work ethic and takes a sense of ownership over one's work
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, mature, professional
- Work effectively with a variety of different roles in the company from operations to executive level
