Executive Director's Office, Financial Services
Are you an Intermediate Accountant looking for a challenging position where you can work with a collaborative, dynamic Finance team? In this role, you will help maintain the financial records of the Commission. Your primary duties include preparing daily and monthly reconciliations, preparing monthly reports of revenue and expenses, processing and recording payments received, invoicing third party chargebacks, and assisting in the annual budget process.
As Intermediate Accountant, you will report to the Manager, Financial Services and Procurement. Your key responsibilities will include:
• Preparing monthly bank reconciliations
• Preparing journal entries for capital expenditures, including calculation of capitalized staff effort
• Assisting in preparation of monthly statements of revenue and expenses and monthly analysis of accounts receivable, prepaids and accrued liabilities
• Assisting in monitoring and forecasting cashflow
• Reconciling fee data reported by the national filing systems (SEDAR , and NRD) to BCSC cash receipts weekly and monthly, and recording BCSC revenue in the general ledger
• Identifying revenue received by manual payments (e.g. wires and cheques) and preparing journal entries to record the revenue in the general ledger
• Preparing Insider fee invoices and responding to inquiries about the invoices
• Reviewing authorized refund forms and preparing journal entries to record the refunds in the general ledger; providing backup documentation for Accounts Payable to issue the refunds
• Preparing invoices and performing collection activities on late Insider fees and reimbursements to BCSC (e.g. CSA chargebacks, NASAA vouchers)
• Assisting in preparation of quarterly forecasts, projections, and annual budget
• Assisting in preparation of quarterly materials for the Audit & Risk Committee package
• Entering quarterly financial results and forecasts/projections into the templates prescribed by the BC government
• Preparing the annual Financial Information Act Report required by the BC government with amounts reconciled to the BCSC's annual financial statements
• Assisting in the implementation and maintenance of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting
• Responding to requests from the external and internal auditors, including compiling data, providing backup documentation, and responding to their inquiries
• Providing backup for other Finance team members; depositing cheques at bank, releasing online payments, assisting with Accounts Payable (reviewing, coding, and posting invoices and employee expense reports)
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has:
- A university or college degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of two years of work experience in a comparable position
- Practical and working knowledge of accounting software (e.g. MS Business Central), Word, and Excel applications (pivot tables, lookup formulas, etc.)
- Good verbal and communication skills
- Strong organization and problem-solving abilities
- Completion of, or enrollment in, the CPA Canada Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF) Program, the CPA Canada Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Program, or similar program

$63,721 (minimum) - $79,654 (midpoint) - $95,584 (maximum).
The starting salary for this position will be determined considering the successful candidate's relevant experience and education, salaries of other employees in the same salary range, market conditions and other relevant factors. Starting salaries are normally below the salary band midpoint.
