This position is a 6-month contract role and holds a pivotal position within our organization.
The Beedie Family Office has been established to meet the investment, estate planning, philanthropic, lifestyle and tax service needs of the Beedie family. The Beedie Family Office maintains close connections with the core operating group; however, is guided by a distinct set of family goals and visions that extend past real estate operations, largely with a view of diversifying core asset holdings and income streams in order to meet its specific objectives.
This role will provide support for the Family Office by managing daily accounting, reporting and compliance tasks, as well as projects as needed. You will be part of a team of professionals and will work closely with the Manager and other key members of the team. While the majority of the workflow will focus largely on the entities and individuals supported directly by the Family Office, there may be occasional assistance provided to other departments within Beedie as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting
- Assist with full cycle accounting
- Prepare journal entries
- Review and approve bank reconciliations
- Investment account reconciliations
- Support senior staff as required for ad hoc reporting
- Prepare year-end files
- Financial Reporting
- Reconcile accounting records for private foundations
- Prepare working papers and account analyses
- Assistance with preparation of financial statements
- Other management reporting, as required
- Quarterly reporting and binders for various family members, looking for ways to add and improve communication
- Treasury
- Assist in preparation of various budgets, including variance analysis for Family Office entities
- Assist with other treasury functions, such as payment processing
- Prepare family interest schedules, payment requests and email remittance advice to payees
- Philanthropy
- Maintain philanthropy database
- Monthly/Quarterly reporting for philanthropy activities
- Tax and Compliance
- Prepare tax pro forma for tax instalments
- Prepare various income tax and information returns including (but not limited to) T1, T2, T3, T2054, UHT, Spec Tax, Charity returns, etc.
- Assist with responding to audit queries
- Assist with tax research and planning as required
- General
- Liaise /maintain relationship with internal and external clientele.
- Other general office administration, special project, accounting duties and other reporting, as required.
- Maintain integrity of controls, recommending improvements as necessary.

- At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience
- Enrolled as CPA student
- Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Caseware and Taxprep
- Have exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a natural tendency for collaboration
- Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility and confidentiality
- Strong decision making, communication (verbal and written) and analytical skills
- Organized self-starter, able to problem solve and work well independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Able to prioritize multiple competing tasks with a strong attention to detail
- Be service oriented with a positive and can-do attitude
The annual base pay range for this position will be based on the desired experience level for this role.
