POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager of Interprofessional Practice, the Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant’s primary responsibility is to carry out patient treatment as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist in the Acute Care Units. The PTA/OTA will work with the patients, their family and the health care team to help rehabilitate each patient to achieve his/her maximum functional level through planned therapeutic programs. Other duties associated with patient care include preparing and tidying the treatment area and the maintenance of departmental supplies and laundry.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
Required:
- Two Year Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant Certification (Diploma) from a recognized Canadian Community College
- Minimum of 2 years recent related experience as a PTA/OTA in adult physical medicine including General Medicine, Neurology, Surgery, Rehabilitation and Geriatrics
- CPR certification beneficial
- Flexibility – may be asked to perform tasks in another areas/hospital sites
- Proficient in Cerner, Word, and Excel
- Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an inter-professional collaborative environment
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving and innovation skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities and tasks also able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical ability to do job duties as assigned; demonstrated knowledge of body mechanics to prevent musculoskeletal injuries including knowledge of safe lifting techniques
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
- Available for a 7-day rotation and ability to provide multi-site coverage as required, flexible shifts
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
