Safety Coordinator

Howitt Construction is a busy excavation company based out of Red Deer. Our work consists of road re-construction, landfill & lagoon cells, site development and gravel pit developments. Our work is typically in Alberta but occasionally in BC & SK.

We have a health and Safety Coordinator position available, based out of Red Deer AB. This person will be responsible for the implementation of the current safety program and support to the field operations. NCSO or HSA designation not required, but candidate must have the four COR courses. Candidates must be independent, resourceful and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Support will be provided in the training phase but this position is independent. Previous industry experience is preferred.

Scope of Work:

• Complete site inspections/visits,
• Ensure policies and procedures are being followed,
• Maintain health and safety statistics,
• Complete provincial safety audits as required,
• Provide support to foremen as necessary; ensure sites have adequate safety supplies & safety materials,
• Responsible for compliance with ISNet, ComplyWorks, Avetta, OHS & AB Transportation,
• Communicate with clients/engineers for safety documentation requirements,
• Manage WCB claims,
• Pick up and deliver small parts from vendors to shop/work sites.

The work schedule is 5 days a week, year round, however we are seasonally busier April-November. This position is based out of the Red Deer office and may require the occasional weekend trip to a job site. The position does require the successful candidate to be available 7 days a week by cell phone unless prior arrangements are made. Approximately a 60/40 split is anticipated (office/field time).

Strong writing skills are required, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel.

Experience:

• health & safety officer: 2 years (preferred)
