Position: Safety Officer

About the Opportunity
Dawson Wallace currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to join our team in Lethbridge Alberta.
As a CSO, you will report directly to the Site Safety Manager. You will be relied upon to facilitate and perform all duties requested by the acting Site Safety Manager. You will be responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and enforcement of the project site safety program.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Regularly monitor HSE compliance of workers and sub-contractors
- Conduct site specific HSE orientations for all new site workers and visitors
- Prepare site safety plans, conduct hazard assessments, incident investigations and risk assessments, as required
- Ensure that all accidents, incidents and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties
- Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective action as required
- Conduct HSE meetings
- Maintain and prepare thorough documentation and reports;
- Keep management updated on issues that arise;
- Administer First Aid as necessary;
- Review trade safety plans and WorkSafe procedures
- Providing Project Statistics (Accident) Reports
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing, bending and kneeling for long periods of time.
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will need at least 5 years of direct experience as a CSO in the commercial and industrial construction industry. This experience in combination with a CSO designation is required.

The Requirements:
- 5 years Health and Safety field experience
- NCSO Designation
- Current First Aid
- Must have reliable transportation
- WHMIS, Fall Protection required
- Comprehensive working knowledge of OH&S legislation
- Possess a broad knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts, Policies, Regulations and Industry Standards as they apply to the construction industry
- Effectively demonstrate the application of hazard and assessment and mitigation
- Must be self-motivated, action oriented and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or independently on routine tasks with a positive attitude
- Highly developed interpersonal skills
- Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of computers and applicable programs
- Must be organized, a critical thinker, ability to problem solve, and a strong attention to detail
