Job Summary
A unique opportunity in compliance and enforcement
The Ministry of Forests delivers holistic resource management services for British Columbians. Within the Ministry, the Integrated Resource Operations Division (IROD) has a dynamic role, in that the Branches within the Division regularly connect with every part of the broader natural resource sector, which includes a healthy balance of economic development and environmental stewardship aspects.
IROD's Compliance and Enforcement Branch (CEB) delivers a full range of compliance and enforcement activities, including education, promotion and compliance with regulatory requirements and conducting major environmental investigations. The CEB supports the management and delivery of compliance and enforcement activities in a manner that is timely, appropriate and consistent with the mandate of the Ministry.
The Natural Resource Officer (NRO) Investigator - Heritage Conservation Specialist provides Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) support and subject matter expertise, advice and direction to investigative teams within the CEB and to external partners and stakeholders. This position assists in complex investigations of significant non-compliance with the HCA and ensures compliance with legislation, policies and other standards.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in archaeology or anthropology with a specialization in archaeology.
  • Experience in natural resource law enforcement and/or administering the Heritage Conservation Act is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in archaeological resource management, including field experience working in the Northwest Coast, Interior Plateau and/or Subarctic/Boreal Forest cultural regions.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with First Nations' communities.
  • Must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.

Provisos:
  • Must be willing to take internal courses/training in order to qualify as a Natural Resource Officer and wear the required uniform.
  • Will be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel and be deployed around the province.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) temporary opportunity available until December 31, 2024.
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests' Compliance and Enforcement Branch offices: 100 Mile House, Campbell River, Castlegar, Chilliwack, Cranbrook, Dawson Creek, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Penticton, Prince George, Revelstoke, Quesnel, Smithers, Squamish, Terrace, Vernon.
Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to one (1) day at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
