Accountant/Admin Assistant
Our small financial office (Licensed Insolvency Trustee) has an immediate need for Accounting/Administrative Assistant to join our small, yet lively, team of 5 people (and one big lovable dog). As Licensed Insolvency Trustees we offer financial assistance to both individuals and companies who are struggling with debt. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with hands-on experience in accounting and customer service.
Full time- 37.5 hours per week based on your availability – we offer some flexibility each week for time and hours in order to accommodate busy schedules, schooling etc. if necessary.
Hours – 9 to 5 Monday to Friday generally – we are looking for someone who is interested in working at our Quadra Street Office location. Victoria BC. We are not offering working from home opportunities at this time.
Rate of Pay - $20 to $25 per hour to start, depending on experience.

The ideal candidate has extensive customer service, excellent time management skills, and previous office experience. This role includes handling all incoming phone calls/emails, scheduling appointments, and accepting payments as well as various accounting and administrative tasks.
In addition to this, there are opportunities to grow the role into a marketing position so candidates with strong knowledge of social media and small business advertising are encouraged to apply.
The appropriate candidate will have demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following:
Mandatory Skills
- 5 – 8 years of accounts payable, bookkeeping, or general accounting experience
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel & Windows environments.
- Proven skill in the accuracy and timeliness in entry and reconciliation of data
- A positive attitude and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a collaborative, team-oriented environment is essential
- Ability to “Problems Solve” for clients (which can be varied)
- Honest, Reliable, mature and self-directed
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Must love dogs – we have an office dog who is big and lovable.
Helpful skills – but not mandatory
- Knowledge of the bankruptcy and insolvency process
- Working with/ability to read/understand Financial Statement
- Previous experience with payroll, T1 or T2 preparation
- 3 years of ‘hands on’ experience working within an administrative support role – strongly preferred.
- Previous experience legal environment.
- Experience using SAGE 300 and other databases is an asset
- Adobe Illustrator or other design programs
- Advertising with Social Media (Facebook, Hootsuite, Google AdWords)
- SEO, Blog development, Google Analytics, or WordPress
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with reviewing monthly reports of debtors’ financial budgets and responding to requests from government bodies and creditors.
- Assist with administrative duties including answering phone calls, filing, front desk reception.
- Work closely with insolvency trustee to assist debtors and management/owners of business struggling with debt, to summarize financial situation and outline a financial recovery plan
- Review all debtor supporting documentation, creating internal and external reports and forms for required filings with government agencies (including CRA) banking authorities, creditors) and the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy
- Preparing outstanding tax returns for insolvency debtors from time to time as required including, GST returns, issuing T4’s, ROE’s, etc.
- Valuing, and liquidating bankruptcy estate assets from time to time including collection of Accounts Receivable
As we are a small office, we also act as out own IT and marketing departments, so interests/experience in these areas will also be considered as an asset.
