Reporting to the Manager, Development & Strategy, the Leader, Development & Client Services plays a critical role in the implementation of the Greater Downtown Plan and overall downtown strategy. The downtown strategy is designed to leverage the investments of the private sector by providing excellence in customer service and continuously learning about the needs, interests and strategies of real estate owners, developers and office and retail tenants. This role acts as the primary liaison to downtown industry members and property owners, responds to formal requests and applications from clients, and undertakes proactive outreach and networking to connect with downtown real estate interests and property owners. This role supports the new vision for the downtown by enabling development and advancing strategic land opportunities while leveraging cross-corporate partners in achieving common goals.
As a member of the Downtown Strategy team, you will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as psychological and physical safety. As a strategic influencer, you will focus on results, communicate effectively, and anticipate client needs. Primary duties include:
- Engage in direct contact with clients, ensure a timely response to queries, understand client needs and resolve concerns to provide a high level of client service.
- Conduct both geographic area and asset class portfolio development and maintenance including understanding activity, issues, and market trends to understand private real estate interests in the downtown and across all corporate land development processes.
- Work cross-corporately to facilitate relationships and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including the Greater Downtown Development Applications Review Team (DART), Real Estate & Development Services, Calgary Parking, and Parks.
- Support and optimize development approvals outcomes including leveraging and aligning private development to complement public investments and initiatives toward the implementation of the Greater Downtown Plan.
- Ensure a high level of client service by building a team to be scalable, accessible, and responsive while working efficiently and delivering on client needs.
- Create and manage a customer database to maintain client records and to document processes.
- Develop customized process paths from strategy to construction to meet unique customer needs.
- Degree in Planning, Engineering, Real Estate, Architecture, Business, Economics or related field and at least 8 years of related experience including at least 2 years leading teams and/or mentoring staff.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Formal supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- Real estate and/or redevelopment experience is considered an asset.
- Public sector experience, particularly municipal government experience in a large, multi-union environment, is a preferred asset.
- Previous experience working within the context of downtown Calgary is considered an asset
- Existing relationships with industry members is considered an asset.
