Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Assistant will play a key role in the continued development of the Accounting department, supporting a variety of tasks within the team and ensuring that all monthly financial reporting deadlines are met. You will assist with day-to-day data entry tasks, processing bank deposits, AP maintenance, backup support or AR, and reconciliation to the GL for the group of companies. You will assist the accounting team in continuous process improvement initiatives and following proper accounting processes and protocols.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Performs day to day bookkeeping tasks, as assigned by the Controller
- Responsible for timely data entry into the accounting system/ software program
- Reconciles sub-ledger accounts to the GL including but not limited to prepaid, AR/ AP, etc.“
- Assists with Accounts Payable processing cycle – Vendor Setup to Vendor Payments
- Performs bank reconciliations for the smaller entities, as needed
- Backs up bank/cash deposits when necessary
- Provides timely expense reporting to the Controller
- Assists with GST/PST/WCB filings and payments
- Cash Receipts posting within Accounts Receivable module
- Provides month-end support to all accounting team members
- Performs intercompany reconciliations and process transactions, as required
- Assists the Controller & Accountant with the posting the month-end and year-end journal entries and preparing related working papers/schedules etc., as assigned
- Assists with invoicing/ collections/ payment processing alongside the AP & AR staff, as needed
- Assists with others’ ad hoc duties/projects as assigned by the Controller
