Job Title: Public Programs & Events Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Part-time; contract (possibility of extension)
Contract Date: April 1, 2024 to November 15, 2024
Hours: Variable; approximately 22.5 hours per week
Salary: $27.00/hour
Closing Date: March 8, 2024 at 4:00 pm
Summary of Position:
The Public Programs & Events Coordinator develops and manages all aspects of the organization’s Public Programs & Events and is an important public-facing representative of the organization. The Public Programs & Events Coordinator will be expected to support the Education & Engagement Coordinator in delivering education programs during high education programming periods.
The Public Programs & Events Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director. While regular shifts will be scheduled primarily during the work week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:30 pm to a maximum of 22.5 hours/week, the Public Programs & Events Coordinator will be required to work outside of standard work hours to deliver programs and facilitate events.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver Public Programs to the community. Programs are developed for children, youth, adults, seniors, and families;
- Facilitate tours of the Museum exhibitions to the public, which may include individuals or groups;
- Seek out and work with community members to deliver contracted programs to the community;
- Develop and lead, or coordinate instructors for workshops, lectures, seminars that deal with minority communities;
- Work collaboratively with the museum team to plan, promote, and organize major events, including, but not limited to exhibition opening receptions, Hops & Heritage annual fundraiser, the CMHS annual general meeting, Sweet Summer Fun, and the Christmas Craft Marker;
- Liaising with external contractors for events, and coordinating drop-off/pick-up of supplies and equipment;
- Develop community projects and deliver an engaging experience for the community of Chilliwack at outreach events, such as the Mural Festival and the Pride Festival;
- Recruit, train, and supervise any volunteers or additional staff providing service within the Chilliwack Museum & Archives Public Programs and Events.
Qualifications:
- University degree, a Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor of Fine Arts, or a comparable qualification; or the equivalent combination of education, training, and lived experience;
- Experience instructing various demographics;
- Experience developing and delivering Public Programs in a museum setting;
- Experience with event planning and coordination;
- Cultural Awareness training would be considered an asset; experience working with minorities and vulnerable people preferred;
- 1-2 years experience working in a museum;
- Valid BC Driver’s License;
- A strong interest in British Columbia and local history;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills marked by professionalism, teamwork, and courtesy;
- Able to work with minimal supervision; works well independently and as a team; flexible;
- Capable of lifting 35lb. from floor to table height and 20lb from table to head height.
The successful candidate will be required to submit a clear criminal record check with vulnerable persons clearance.
The successful candidate must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
