As an Analytical Technician in the Bureau of Investigative Support of the Calgary Police Service (CPS), you will provide support to investigators and analysts in the Criminal Operations and Intelligence Division. Specific duties include:
- Analyze and understand crime trends, series, and problems in order to provide recommendations.
- Mine police and open-source data to complete profiles and Target-sheets on Subjects of Interest, Targets and Victims.
- Provide up to date court custody information on select offenders.
- Provide up-to-date statistics for the CPS statistical reports, and other requesters as needed.
- Compose in-depth profiles providing a comprehensive picture of an individual for intelligence and investigative operations.
- Production Order support including preliminary Excel based analysis and ArcGIS mapping.
- Create and disseminate bulletins (both internal and external agency bulletins).
- Support management and staff in obtaining and maintaining information for strategic reports, intelligence reports, tactical operations, performance measurement and workload analysis.
- Respond to information requests from internal and external partners, often under tight deadlines and after re-prioritizing projects accordingly.
- Assist and respond to tasks assigned by Criminal Operations and Intelligence Analytical Manager.
- A degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline, with course work in human behaviour, social statistics and research methodology plus a minimum of 2 years of experience which includes data mining skills.
- Knowledge of basic statistics, research methodology, data structure and data management.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of Niche Records Management System (SENTRY), Palantir, Justice Online Information Network (JOIN), Correctional Administration (ORCA) and Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and proficiency in OneNote, Provincial database systems (ROADS, VISTAS, CORES, SPIN II) would be assets.
- Analytical thinking, change management, coaching & development, excellent communications skills, efficiency & thoroughness, focus on results, and relationship building.
- An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
