The Facial Identification Technician provides a key support function as it relates to the successful identification of suspects in law enforcement investigations. This is done using Facial Recognition technology, creation of photographic line-up packages and the pro-active review of suspect images as distributed, such as Need to Identify bulletins. Specific duties include:
- Navigate through computer systems to efficiently prioritize, create and deliver photo lineups in active law enforcement investigations. Utilize Adobe Photoshop software to make any necessary adjustments in photograph quality to ensure line ups are consistent.
- Utilize various features of the Facial Recognition system to manage the charge image database and maintain its effective operate.
- Navigate through computer systems to efficiently prioritize, review and search investigative images within the Facial Recognition system and compare results to provide investigative leads to assist in the identification of unknown suspects.
- Willingness to respond to exigent request and be called into work after regular hours and on days off.
- Attend court to provide oral testimony, primarily regarding the construction of photographic line-ups.
- Provide advice and guidance to assist investigators with their requests for identification services.
- Prepare and present case study material to demonstrate and promote role and technology to maintain knowledge and awareness within the Service.
- Administrative duties include routine correspondence, mail, shredding, record keeping and keeping statistics regarding photographic lineups and facial recognition.
Qualifications
- High school or equivalent (G.E.D.) plus job related coursework and a minimum of one-year related law enforcement experience, including experience in face comparison, image comparison and use of Niche/Sentry or related programs.
- Successful completion of the FBI Face comparison and identification course is required or must be successfully attained within six months from selection.
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required.
- Experience with Photoshop would be considered an asset.
- Achieve results that make the best use of time and resources. Good communicator who can build relationships that helps with team building and teamwork. excellent customer service skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
