As the Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) Coordinator, you will assist with the coordination of the Victim Assistance Support Team and act as liaison between police officers and Victim Services Specialists (volunteers) to assist and support victims of crime. Primary duties include:

  • Respond 24/7 to requests for VAST Victim Service Specialists to ensure effective and timelyresponse to victims of crime and/ortragedy.

  • Coordinate, develop and deliver a training curriculum for Victim Service Specialists including sourcing subject matter experts for classroom sessions ensuring volunteers have the skills and knowledge to support victims of crime and tragedy in court and crisissituations.

  • Participate in team wellness program to minimize psychological impact on Victim ServiceSpecialists.

  • Build strategic relationships with internal/external stakeholders and service providers to better assist victims of crime andtragedy.

  • 24/7 Contact with victims of crime that have been directly affected by tragedy and provide them with the appropriate information, support andreferrals.

  • Working knowledge of Alberta Victims of Crime and Public SafetyAct.

 
Qualifications 
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Communications/Public Relations, Criminal Justice or relatedfield.

  • A Minimum of 3 years experience in a police, social work or victim services environment which includes the coordination of social or communityprograms and volunteer management is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the criminal justice system with a focus on victim centered approach to diversity and Indigenous Court and restorativejustice is required.

  • Proven history of innovative thinking around new ways to communicate with victims using social media.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and a Driving Abstract with no more than 6 demerit points (current within 3 months) must be provided if contacted for an interview.

  • Excellent communication skills, coaching and development, efficiency and thoroughness focusing on results, managing resources, relationship building and team building andteamwork.

Working Conditions: Office Environment with exposure to graphic information in police files.
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • An enhanced security clearance and a pre-employment polygraph will beconducted.

  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $42.09 - 56.27 per hour 
Days of Work: This is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation
which will require working 10 hour shifts, days and afternoons 
and on-call 24/7 on a rotating basis.
Hours of work: Non - Standard 40 hour work week
